Section 2 -Question

   For this post all I have to do is answer some questions that I was given for section two. The following is the answer to the questions;

1) List three main characters in the movie-describe the personality of each in a brief paragraph.

Juno:
Juno is a sixteen year old, high school student and the main character of the movie. Unfortunately Juno made some poor choices that had life changing consequences. In the movie Juno didn’t protect herself while having intercourse and that resulted in pregnancy. She is intelligent and has good morals. Instead of getting an abortion she chose a tougher road; adoption. She didn’t have it in her to abort the baby instead she did a selfless thing for someone else. Besides the heavy stuff, Juno is a humorous character who enjoys music. She always talks about her favourite bands and plays the guitar.  She is a fun person to watch and has an interesting way of talking. For example in the movie Juno calls the scent of perfume bubbly tub notes.

Leah:
Leah is a 16 year old high school student and Juno’s best friend. Leah is one of the popular cheerleader types. She has quite an interesting taste in men. In the movie Leah is shown to have a crush on her very old school teacher. She is a fairly good-looking girl who doesn’t discriminate against other cliques. Leah talks to everyone from cheerleaders to the science club. She is also very understanding and caring. When Juno comes to her about her pregnancy she helps her every way she can. She is there to help make the decision of adoption, telling Juno’s parents, simply hanging out with Juno and being in the delivery room when Juno gives birth.

Mark:
Mark is a 30ish year old composer. Mark is married to Vanessa and Juno’s choice for the adoptive father.   Mark is somewhat of an immature adult trying to re-live his youth. He wears t-shirts with bands on them and stays home watching movies instead of working. To me Mark is kind of a creeper. He makes very inappropriate comments to Juno about her looks and spends intimate time with her. In one scene he actually slow dances with Juno while they were at his house.  Mark is not ready to move forward with his life and is scared of committing. After a few months of knowing Juno he says he’s leaving his wife and can’t be a father. Mark wants to have fun, be young, rock out and do what he wants when he wants.

2) Describe the opening shot of the film.

In the opening shot of the film Juno is standing outside staring at what looks to be a recliner type chair. As she stares at the chair she has a flash back of Pauli Bleaker sitting on a chair and her approaching him. The flash back continues to display the time Juno loses her virginity.

3) Why do you think the director chose to open the film this way?

I think the director chose to open the film this way for an obvious reason. The movie is about Juno and her pregnancy. The director wanted to show who, when, where, how and why the pregnancy happened. It discloses any questions people may have about the initial events that took place.

4) Describe the closing shot of the film.

At the end of the movie it shows Juno with Pauli, playing their guitars and singing. Then it goes to Vanessa with her new baby boy lying on a bed, cuddling and bonding.

5) Why do you think the director chose to end the film this way?
I think the director wanted a happy ending. He wanted to show that what happened was the best for all involved. Juno gets to continue her life as normal as possible with her boyfriend Pauli. Always knowing that her baby will be taken of and that she did a selfless thing for someone. Vanessa and the baby would have what the always wanted, an unconditional love and bond between mother and child.

6) What, in your opinion, do you think is the best technical support of the film? Defend your choice.

I think the best technical support was the camera angles. The camera angels caught everything perfectly. When Juno was crying after giving her baby to Vanessa the camera angle caught the emotion perfectly. Even when Juno mentioned the runners “pork-swords” you not only got to see what she was talking about, but you also got to see her in the background and her expression. The camera men/women did their jobs very well.

7) What is the director’s main moral message to the audience?

I think the director’s main moral message was that teen pregnancy is a reality but avoidable.  If a situation does occur there is always a positive side. You have to look inside yourself and find what is right for you. To me the director did seem to be against abortion and pro-life that is also a moral that could be shown in the movie. All beings born and unborn deserve a chance to live their life.

Culminating Activity Film Response Sheet

O.k. So for this part of my culminating I was told to watch the movie and stop it every few minutes so I could record what had happened. So what I did was watch the movie and I wrote down "important stuff" that happened in those last few minutes. My movie was about 96 minutes long so I stopped it about every 5 minutes so I could get 22 events in the movie. The following will be a list that will summarize what happened in the movie to give you a sense of what happened.

1)      At the beginning of the movie Juno is staring at this chair that is outside of someone’s house, having a flash back of when she lost her virginity.
2)      Juno then walks to a small convenient store a buys a pregnancy test. She uses the washroom to do the tests. When she walks out of the washroom the test comes out positive confirming that she is indeed pregnant.
3)      Juno is really upset about the results so she calls her friend Leah and tells her about the pregnancy. She expresses to Leah that she is thinking about getting an abortion.
4)      Juno tells Pauli Bleaker, the guy she lost her virginity to and is pregnant by about the pregnancy. She also tells him she is thinking about getting an abortion. Pauli Bleaker agrees with whatever she wants to do.
5)      Juno calls an abortion clinic called “Women now” and sets up an appointment for the abortion.
6)      The next day or so Juno goes to the abortion clinic and sees a fellow class mate named Sue Chin. Sue chin is protesting against abortion and tells Juno things about the baby to try and change her mind. Juno walks into the clinic but eventually freaks out and decides she cannot go through with it.
7)      Juno goes to her friend Leah’s house and tells her she cannot go through with the abortion. After talking about her situation she decides on adoption.
8)      Juno and Leah look in the “Penny Saver” (some sort of news paper) and find adoption ads. They come across Vanessa and Mark Loring, a couple Juno is considering for the adoption.
9)      Juno finally gets herself together and feels it’s time to tell her parents about the pregnancy. While talking to her parents she expresses wanting to give her baby up for adoption, and the couple she found in the “Penny Saver”.
10)  Juno and her father then go meet Mark and Vanessa and talk about the adoption. After speaking with them and their lawyer she agrees that Mark and Vanessa are the best choice and signs the adoption papers. Juno finds that she has a lot in common with Mark, so they start to bond. Ex; play guitar together

11)  Juno has her first ultra sound, but refuses to know what the sex is because she wants it to be a surprise.
12)  Juno goes and shows Mark and Vanessa the ultra sound, continues to bond with Mark.
13)  Vanessa starts to prepare for the baby. Buys cloths, toys and starts to paint the room. Unfortunately Mark doesn’t seem as interested and wants no part of the preparation. His excuse is he thinks it’s too early.
14)  Juno gets into a fight with Pauli Bleaker, the baby’s father when she finds out he is going to prom with someone else.
15)  Mark tells Juno that he is leaving Vanessa and wants a divorce. He expresses that he is not ready to become a father and wants different thing then Vanessa. Juno is scared and heartbroken.
16)  Juno thinks it over and realizes that Vanessa is still the perfect person to raise her baby, so she tells Vanessa she’s still in if that’s what she wants.
17)  Juno loses all faith in love. She goes and talks to her dad and something he said made her realize that she is in love with Pauli Bleaker.
18)  Juno sees Pauli Bleaker at school and confesses her love for him. Pauli tells her he feels the same so they get back together. They break out in a make out session on a soccer field.
19)  Juno is sitting at home when all of a sudden her water breaks. She is rushed to the hospital and goes through the wonders of labour and delivery.
20)  Although it was one of the hardest things she had to do and she was heartbroken, Juno continues with the plan of giving the baby to Vanessa. Vanessa gets to hold her new baby boy for the first time and she looks like the happiest woman in the world.
21)  Juno and Bleaker continue their relationship. They’re sitting outside singing and playing their guitars. Vanessa is sitting on a bed holding her son.

Proposal Sheet

Wednesday, 20 April 2011
So this blog post is going to be some basic information about the movie I have picked, and why I decided to pick it. :)

1)The full name of the film I have decided to do is JUNO.

2) The director of the film is a man named Jason Reitman.

3)    This film was made/produced in the year 2007. Although I cannot find the actual date the movie was finishes I found the release date on DVD and the premiere date.
Release Date: 25 December 2007
Premiere Date:  9 December 2007

4)    I picked the movie Juno because I can relate to this movie. Like Juno I became a mother at a very young age. I was 17 years old when I got pregnant with my son. I had to deal with the everyday problems of being pregnant and the fear of raising a child. Like Juno I had many types of hard decisions to make and hoped that I was making the right ones. I was actually pregnant when this movie came out and for some weird reason I feel like it was made for me. Or at least made in a way I just have to watch it.
*The movie came out December of 2007 so I was four almost five months pregnant*
5)    In this movie there will be some issues Juno has to face. The first would be a moral issue. What to do now that she found out she was pregnant. When a woman is pregnant there are three different things she can decide to do. The first is deciding to abort the baby. The second is to give the baby up for adoption. This way she would being giving her child to a loving couple who cannot have their own baby. This could be for many reasons, one being she feels she is not ready to be a parent. The last option is to keep her baby. Making the decision to become a parent would mean a lot of sacrifice, something many people are not ready or capable of doing. All three of those decisions are difficult to make. At the end of the day it's what you feel is right not only for yourself but for the baby.

Another issue I see happening in this movie is a problem in relationships. An issue between her and her baby’s father will definitely arise. Their relationship will most likely slip after becoming pregnant.  Also I feel that her relationship with her parents may change.  They may lose trust that Juno can make right decisions by herself. They may pressure Juno into making a decision she doesn't want to make. Even having a different opinion could start some sort of drama in the family.

I think poor Juno has a long journey ahead of her!!

Hey Hey Hey!!

So I've gotten a little comfortable with using blogs for school work and I've decided I am going to use one for my English Culminating. So the next few blogs, well this whole blog page will be about the movie I picked for my culminating.
